RTA

The Roads and Transport Authority seeks to develop and manage integrated & sustainable roads & transit systems to bring them to world-class standards. It is also focused on delivering pioneering services to beneficiaries with a view to making them happy and supporting the vision of Dubai. The RTA endeavours to achieve these objectives through shaping the future, developing policies & legislations, keeping pace with technology & innovations, and adopting top global practices & standards.

Over the past decade, the public transport sector in Dubai has witnessed an upswing involving the construction of the Dubai metro and Tram projects and overhauling public transport with state-of-the-art buses featuring the best international specifications. It has also revamped the marine transit systems through the deployment of an array of new transit modes comprising the water bus, water taxi and ferry.

Public transit systems are the backbone of peoples mobility in Dubai and the preferred mobility option of a large chunk of Dubaiís residents & visitors. The share of public transport (metro, tram, buses and marine transport) in the people’s mobility has soared from 6% in 2006 to 16% in 2016. The RTA is seeking to push this rate to as much as 20% by 2020, and 30% by 2030.
